No one likes having impressions done. It is like having a mouth full of playdough. However, they are necessary for many procedures such as crowns, bridges, implants, dentures and the list goes on.

Our office is excitedly awaiting the arrival of one of the most state of the art digital machines available, the 3Shape Scanner by Trios. The intuitive nature of the device and ease of use make it much faster than traditional impression techniques as well as more comfortable for patients.

This will now replace 90% of the impressions we take. It has the ability to digitally scan the teeth and soft tissue with a highspeed camera to capture hard and soft tissue and render color. The scans can be immediately uploaded to the dental lab. The lab can then begin the fabrication process much faster, thus reducing our turn around time to deliver crowns and implants to patients. Because of the accuracy of this machine and the elimination of human error, there are fewer remakes of restorations and prosthesis.

Did you know we have a No Cavity Club?

Patients that have their teeth cleaned and do not have any cavities are entered into a drawing. Each month, an adult wins either an electric toothbrush or an air flosser (their pick) and a kid wins a $25 gift card to Target! We hope to pick your name next!

Saving Smiles has been gearing up for the golf season with “cavi-tees” and molar ball markers!

Dr. Johnson golfed at the 10th Annual “Open Wide” Open scramble put on by WE Ortho and benefitting the Red River Valley Dental Access Project and the Saving Smiles “Tooth Fairies” golfed at the United Way of Cass-Clay 2018 Women United Golf Scramble!

We love being able to have a fun time while supporting great causes in our community!

We hope that we don’t see too many patients this summer with a “hole in one”!

Dr. Johnson has always shared his love for Star Wars with others. That is why he again reserved an entire theater for the premiere night of the latest Star Wars movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story. He invited friends, family, patients, colleagues, those involved in the Big Brother Big Sister program and other ticket winners to enjoy the first showing of the movie on the Ultra Screen. Some attendees dressed as Star Wars characters and Dr. Johnson even rocked his R2D2 suit jacket. Dr. Johnson said that Solo was definitely his favorite of the last four movies, so he was very glad to be one of the first to see it! Until the next Star Wars movie is released – May the Force be with you!

We are so excited to announce that we have added Rylee to our team of hygienists. She is a recent grad of the dental hygiene program at Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Moorhead. She loves educating people about how and why they should improve their oral health. Please help us in welcoming Rylee to the team during your next visit to the office!

We fully embraced all of the awesome Fargo Marathon events this year! We made custom Saving Smiles shirts and had participants in the dog run, kids run, 5k and 1/2 marathon! What a fun community event to be a part of. Kuddos to the Fargo Marathon team for all of their planning and execution of an amazing week of fun! We can’t wait to do it all again next year!

Dr. Johnson’s passion for Star Wars is always a reason for us to celebrate May the 4th Be With You. This year we were given the opportunity to serve in the dining room at Salvation Army. It was a wonderful experience and so fun to get out of the office and give back to the community. Our team dressed in Star Wars gear and Jane even wore a Darth Vader mask! We hope we can partner with them to volunteer again, even if it isn’t on Star Wars day.

Morning and bedtime routines are hard enough without having to deal with brushing and flossing, but they are important habits to start early! Here are some tips to help get your kids to brush and floss 2 times per day (morning and night) for 2 minutes each:

• Let them pick out their toothbrush (remember to replace every 3 to 4 months)
• Brush with them – the family that brushes together, smiles together
• Reward brushing with a sticker or a bedtime story (preferably not candy 😉)
• Play one of these fun videos while they brush:

🎥Blippi Tooth Brushing Song
🎥This Is The Way We Brush Out Teeth – LittleBabyBum

Make it fun! Practice flossing with Legos and Play-Doh. Then move on to adding it to their daily routine. See Dr. Johnson’s video example.

Saving Smiles had the opportunity to volunteer with Hope Blooms.

We heard from the wonderful Kelly Krenzel about her journey of inspiring hope, happiness and emotional healing through repurposed flowers and the formation of Hope Blooms. She shared her passion for spreading joy by demonstrating how to repurpose a flower donation into beautiful bedside bouquets.

We jumped right in and created 57 beautiful bouquets. The flowers that we tended to included blooms in many different shades of blue, so we felt like the bouquets had a special touch from the Saving Smiles crew. The flowers were delivered to residents at Maple View Memory Care in Fargo.

The event was a great way for our team to gather and give back. If you are looking for a fun volunteer or team building event, checkout the opportunities they have at
